FTS Apollo™ Product Release Bulletin - July 2, 2018

Introduction

Recently, FinTech Studios has released several upgrades to our flagship FTS Apollo™ product. Highlights of the recent improvements:

Relevance Filter (Primary Tag.md)

Every article is analyzed as it is being captured to assign the Entity Tags. Part of the determination when assigning a tag is whether the Entity has a low, medium or high relevance to the specific article being analyzed. Factors like the number of times a company is mentioned, whether the company name is in the headline, etc. are taken into consideration. This determination is done for every tag, so Topics, Regions, Industries, etc. are all analyzed as part of analyzing the article and then a determination is made about which of them are Primary (High.md), which are Secondary (Medium.md), and which are Tertiary (Low.md).

Primary Indicator

Wherever you see an Entity Tag, you will now see some in bold and some in a regular font. The bold indicates that for that article, the entity is considered Primary.

Primary Indicator in Channels

The Channel Editor has been enhanced to include the Relevance Filter as part of the Channel Definition. Every Entity contained in a Channel can be set to Low, Medium or High relevance. This is useful for high volume Entities where you can set the filter to High and low volume Entities to Low.

My FTS Settings

A new setting has been added to the My FTS Settings. You can set your overall default relevancy to High, Medium or Low. Click on My FTS in the Top Menu and then click on Preferences to view and change your Relevance Filter setting which is part of your News Preferences.

Text Search Relevance

Using a Text Search can be a great tool when searching for specific information within FTS Apollo™. With this release, we have improved the relevance of a text search using a series of factors including whether or not the Query String appears in the headline of the article and the number of times that it appears within the body of the article. The results show the more relevant articles at the top of the News Feed, improving your overall experience.

The improvement in Text Search Relevance is also factored in when a Query String is included in a Channel Definition and the sort for the channel is set to relevance, giving you more relevant results when viewing your channel.

Shareable Dashboards

Dashboards in FTS Apollo™ are a great way to consolidate multiple views centered around a specific area of interest. With this release, we have introduced the concept of Shareable Dashboards. Using this ability, a power user can create a common dashboard and then share it with other FTS Apollo™ users.

Receiving a Shared Dashboard

A shared-dashboard will arrive in the form of a URL link. Once you click on the link, the dashboard will be displayed and next to the name of the dashboard will be a COPY button. To save the shared dashboard, you will need to click on COPY. This will save the dashboard for you and make it available under the My Dashboards section of the Left Menu.

Sharing a Dashboard

To Share a Dashboard, you will need to have Dashboard Administration rights to edit and share dashboards. To be shareable, a dashboard needs to be set to Public. This is done by clicking on the EDIT button and switching the Public/Private toggle to Public and then on SAVE to save the dashboard. Once it is set to public a SHARE button will appear next to the dashboard name. Click on SHARE and you will be given the URL associated with the dashboard which you can then copy and paste into an email or a Symphony chat.

Channel Editor

Significant improvements have been made to the Channel Editor designed to make creating and managing a Channel easier to do. The new version of the editor uses a spreadsheet type grid to manage the list of entities contained within the Channel Definition. In addition, the new Relevancy Filter capabilities have been added to the editor and can be set for every item in the channel except for sources where relevancy does not apply.

The new grid allows you to sort each column, apply a filter to a column, select multiple entities, and change relevancy for entities as a group or individually. It is also much easier to determine the setting in a channel as the display of information is much cleaner.

Enhanced Widget Capabilities

The Word Cloud Widget, Top Entities Widget, Trending News Widget, Media Coverage by Language Widget, and Media Coverage Widget have all been enhanced.

Widget Filter Display

A heading display for each of these widgets has been added to show the filter being used in the top left corner of the widget. The display will include the Entities being used in the filter and the Relevancy Filter Setting for each Entity.

Filter Editing

Clicking on the filter, or the edit icon next to the filter, brings up the Widget Filter edit screen using the new Channel Editor interface. You can change the Relevancy Filter setting for the primary entity, add new entities, or generally filter any way you want to. Once you are done, click on SAVE in the lower right corner of the editor and the widget will be updated using the filter settings. This can be used to focus your results or provide additional insight by looking at multiple entities or changing the relevancy of your current entities.

Note that once you refresh the page or navigate away from the page containing the widget, your changes will be reset to the original settings.

Word Cloud Improvements

The Word Cloud has been improved with the addition of the Enhanced Widget Capabilities. We have also added two other improvements to enhance the functionality of the widget.

Word Cloud - Stop Words

the Word Cloud has been improved by eliminating "Stop Words" such as The, In, Of, And, etc., giving much more informative and relevant results for the News Feed being analyzed.

If you click on one of the words in the word cloud, FTS Apollo™ will create a Text Search using that word and will now only search the articles that were used to create the word cloud, giving you far more focused results.

You will find the Word Cloud Widget on the Entity Dashboard and on the analysis pop up when you click on an Edge in a Relationship Graph.

Top Entities Improvements

The Top Entities Widget has multiple improvements, including the Enhanced Widget Capabilities that significantly enhance the usefulness of the widget.

Top Entities - Quick add to Filter

As an extension of the new enhanced widget capabilities, you can dynamically change the filter being used to generate the top entities list by clicking on the + located to the left of the entity name. This will add that entity to the filter such that every article in the feed being analyzed will need to be tagged with that entity. This can be very useful when you want to look at the top entities using one of the Topics for instance, or if you want to see all the articles within the feed from a specific Source.

You can still use the new editor capability for the widget to refine the filter in more complicated ways as well (or just to see what it is currently using as a filter.md).

Top Entities - Entity Mention Count

Every entity shown in the Top Entities Widget includes the number of times that entity is mentioned in the feed being analyzed. Previously, clicking on the number took you to the Entity Dashboard for that entity. We have upgraded that link to take you to the specific articles represented by that number, giving you quick, direct access to the Articles associated with the number appearing in the widget.
