Translation

Articles can be translated using either Free Translation or Premium Translation.

Free Translation

Google Chrome offers free translation as part of using the browser. This can be used effectively for FTS Apollo™ although there are some downsides to using browser level translations and some companies block Google Translate completely for security reasons.

Whenever Chrome detects that a foreign language is being displayed (it uses your primary language setting for the browser), it will offer to translate the page unless you have specifically disable translation. This capability is very useful when viewing articles as Chrome will usually know that you need a translation and offer to perform it. Just click the Translate button and the page will be converted to your primary language.

Translation within Apollo, or where Chrome does not detect the language, can be done by right clicking on the page and selecting Translate to English from the resulting pop up menu. Within FTS Apollo™ this is very effective when viewing a News Feed consisting of one or more languages that need to be translated. Chrome will detect and translate each language correctly, even when more than one is being displayed.

Note

Because this is browser level translation, the page itself changes and does not always behave correctly once you invoke Translate. You can correct this by clicking on Show original which will return the page to its original status.

Premium Translation

Premium Translation is available within FTS Apollo™ as an added feature. This allows you to tranlate within the application and avoids the issues associated with browser level applications and with corporate firewalls blocking Google Translate.

FTS Apollo™ will translate languages using the App Language selected in your Preferences. As part of Premium Translation, you can set your Content Language using the + ADD ALL TRANSLATABLE LANGUAGES button in your Preferences.

When Premium Translation is enabled, you will find a translation icon in every Article Card that contains a translatable language. In addition, every News Feed and news search result will include a TRANSLATE option as part of the Filter Bar above the result. Clicking on the TRANSLATE button will translate every translatable article in the feed.
