Types of Newsletters

High Volume Newsletter

The high volume newsletter is based on a channel that gets a lot of articles and the newsletter is designed to deliver a sampling. In this case, the settings you want to use are to sort the channel with a trending sort which will bring the most published articles to the top and then decide how many you want to publish. Since this is only a sampling, publish 5 - 10 articles and encourage your recipients to click on the Newsletter Landing Page to see more.

Low Volume Newsletter

A low volume newsletter uses a channel where only a handfull of articles are published between newsletter publications. In this case, use a time sort to bring the most recent articles to the top of the newsletter. This is also the type of newsletter designed to use the flag that will not send the newsletter out when it is empty.

Curated Periodic Newsletter

If you would like to pick articles to be published you can use a curated newsletter. In this case you will need to set up a workflow and include it in your newsletter channel definition. In this case the recommendation is to use a time sort for the articles which will give you the most recent article at the top of the newsletter.

Notification Newsletter

You can set up a newsletter that will notify you whenever an article is published into a channel. you can set up a newsletter schedule that will try to publish a newsletter every 15 minutes. Couple that capability with the ability to not send the newsletter when no new article exists since the last newsletter was published. You will then be notified for any new articles on a regular schedule.

Note

The minutely and hourly schedules cannot currently be set to publish only on certain days so if an article is published over the weekend, the newsletter will be published at that point.

Curation Support Newsletter

One of the tasks associated with a curated newsletter is finding new articles to publish. A great way to help manage this is to create a daily newsletter using a channel definition that sends you candidate articles every day. You can then use the newsletter landing page to find and tag the article for publication by turning on the curation workflow and selecting the article or articles you want to include.
